Asmongold explains distaste for current state of World of Warcraft

Twitch streamer Asmongold has explained why he might be “done” with Blizzards’s MMO, World of Warcraft. Asmongold built his popularity initially around the game. He has now, however, extended his reach to other games, including Final Fantasy 14 and Lost Ark. Despite the fact that he has said to his followership multiple times that he was not leaving the game behind, his attitude seems to indicate otherwise.

In one of his recent streams, Asmongold went through a list of news of upcoming MMO releases and announcements. Included in the list was Blizzard’s World of Warcraft expansion announcement event, expected to be held on April 19 this year.

The Twitch streamer then went on to explain why he might have given up playing World of Warcraft and why he would not play the upcoming patch, World of Warcraft 9.2, especially if it does not fix what he thinks to be the problems with the game.

Asmongold then received several desperate responses from World of Warcraft fans in his chat, which only led to a more hostile response of his own, ending with him saying that he was done with Blizzard’s most successful MMO.

What was said

in a passionate and lengthy speech, he explained that he was tired of the same “garbage” Blizzard released every patch while pretending it was new. Part of this garbage, he said, was the progression system that he said was wasting his time by limiting access to progress only to stretch content out. He expressed the belief that Blizzard was releasing content with “handicaps” and “time-wasting mechanisms” in purpose, to be removed with catch-up systems later.

“I’ve gone through the same donkey show for 15 years,” Asmongold said. “I’m sick of seeing stuff come out, and there’s an obvious change that everybody needs to see, and it doesn’t happen because they withhold it to artificially extend content length.

“I don’t want to play a game that they’ve intentionally gimped to make it harder to get tier gear. I don’t want it to be hard to get tier gear. I just want to get the gear. I want it to be as simple as you kill the boss and you get the gear.”

The 31-year-old streamer explained that he was tired of having to deal with the same type of game design over and over again. He acknowledged that t was not a World of Warcraft exclusive problem. However, as he had spent more than a decade playing World of Warcraft, he wanted the game to try doing something different. He then explained that he was “exhausted” and “done with it”.

“It’s just the same stupid bullsh*t every patch. It’s the same mistakes repeated every patch. I’m tired of seeing that. I’m tired of having my time intentionally wasted.”

Asmongold then added he was not the only one tired of Blizzard’s lack of creativity, saying: “People are tired of Blizzard releasing the same garbage every patch. They’re tired of them introducing new systems with intentional handicaps and time-wasting mechanisms only to be applauded when they remove them a year later.

“I don’t want to deal with this anymore. It’s exhausting. That’s all it comes down to. I don’t care about Lost Ark or FFXIV or all those other games. I’m talking about WoW. That’s what they’ve done, and I’m done with it.”
