Blizzard reveals new mode for Overwatch 2 in Season 2 trailer
Blizzard has released the trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 2. The upcoming season will arrive on December 9 and feature the new tank Ramattra, limited-time events, maps and new skins.
Blizzard revealed that the new season would have a limited-time event named Battle for Olympus on the Ilios map. It will begin on January 5 and end on January 19, 2023.
The main star of this event is Junker Queen, who has a new Zeus skin that allows her to summon lightning strikes. Like Genji’s Cyber Demon mythic skin, Junker Queen’s mythic skin should be the final reward at the end of the battle pass.
The Greek pantheon theme for the Season 2 battle pass will offer god-themed skins such as Hades for Pharah, Poseidon Ramattra, Hermes for Lúcio, Medusa for Widowmaker, Minotaur for Reinhardt and Cyclops for Roadhog.
Besides Greek-themed skins, Blizzard also plans on releasing a gingerbread house skin for Bastion in the 2022 Winter Wonderland event. Mei will also receive a rabbit-themed skin for the 2023 Lunar New Year event.
Overwatch executive producer Jared Neuss said Blizzard had made some adjustments to the battle pass to make players feel “more rewarded” playing the game. Neuss said there would be more obtainable skins from events and Twitch streams.
Despite Blizzard’s promise to improve Overwatch 2, players are still unsatisfied. The comment section of the trailer is full of complaints regarding expensive skin prices.
“I really like the part where Blizzard didn’t nerf the skin prices, truly a Overwatch 2 moment,” one player said.
Blizzard to nerf Sojourn
Besides adding new content, Overwatch 2 Season 2 will balance many heroes, with Sojourn receiving the biggest nerf. She has been one of the strongest DPS heroes in the meta, which causes many players to complain.
In the Season 2 preview blog post, Blizzard explained that the team would “focus” on Sojourn’s Rail Gun ability. Although not explicitly said, the developer implies that it will adjust the damage of her ability based on the attack distance. The move encourages players to use the hero’s high mobility to “close the distance for the more devastating right-clicks.”
While Sojourn will be nerfed, Doomfist will finally receive some buffs. The hero has been unpopular among players due to his bad performance. Blizzard will employ “significant changes” to make Doomfist a proper support in the front line.
The developer will also make unspecified changes to Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy and Symmetra.
Doomfist players being harassed
Some players have reported unjust harassment from other players because they played as Doomfist. Some even said that their accounts had been banned following mass reports from other players.
With the launch of Overwatch 2, Doomfist received a significant downgrade. In the original Overwatch, the hero could inflict damages in quick succession. However, he has been tweaked to fit his tank role and received a huge HP boost but a massive reduction of damage output.
Many fans have protested about the state of Doomfist on social media. However, the new trend of harassing Doomfist players may indicate that some players consider the hero so bad that he interferes with their team’s performance.
