India’s first Pokémon Unite LAN tournament enters final stage today
The final stage of AAYO Pokecon 2022, India’s first-ever Pokémon Unite LAN tournament, starts today and will continue until October 23 at Gaur Stadium in Greater Noida. Glance Gaming, a consumer technology firm founded in 2019, streams the tournament in collaboration with Crowd Control Esports (CCE).
Over 100 teams registered for the tournament, but only eight advanced to the finals. The championship began on September 24 with a massive prize pool of ₹1,000,000 ($12,000). With around 30,000 spectators, fans can have their memorabilia signed by top Pokémon Unite players.
The tournament is the largest third-party event in the history of the Indian Pokémon community. It includes special sessions with some of the country’s top gaming influencers and a cosplay party, in which fans can dress up as their favorite Pokémon characters.
Glance Gaming
Through AAYO Pokecon and Hyperlive, Glance Gaming hopes to provide a premium live format that allows fans to interact with their favorite celebrities and creators in a two-way fashion and game-streaming experiences on their screens.
“Glance Gaming is one of India’s largest live game streaming platforms,” Glance Gaming VP and GM Yashashvi Takallapalli said. “Our aim is to bring the best of Hyperlive, or deeply interactive, premium, and immersive gaming experiences, onto the smartphone lock screen.
“Making India’s first ever Pokémon Unite LAN Tournament – AAYO Pokecon 2022 – available to our consumers is in line with that vision.”
The company streamed the tournament’s preliminary stages, including fixtures, qualifiers and leagues, with a daily average of 1 million views. It expects to receive over 2 million daily live views during the three-day finale.
Glance aims to reinvent how the internet is consumed on the lock screen by removing the need to search for and download apps. It has over 20 million live broadcast viewers who stay tuned to almost 1,500 gaming live streams on the lock screen each month.
Nearly 65 million active users enjoy 400+ casual to hyper-casual games on the Gaming platform. In addition to India, Glance Gaming also has a significant presence in Indonesia.
Crowd Control Esports
Prior to the tournament, CCE had arranged over 25 esports tournaments and events of various genres in the last two years. They also initiated multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) esports in India, hosting championships for MOBAs such as Arena of Valor, DoTA2, League of Legends WildRift and others.
“The collaboration between Crowd Control Esports and Glance Gaming is driven by a purpose – to create an experience for gamers, an adrenaline rush for the fans and power-packed campaign for our brands,” Peeyush Kumar, Founder & CEO of Crowd Control Esports, said about the event.
“We do this with content, curated and energized for the masses,” Kumar added. “We joined forces to multiply our capabilities and create structural impact in esports in India. With Glance’s lock screen based discovery at scale, we are confident that they are an ideal partner for us.”
