ONE Esports Singapore Major predictions
In this section we’ll offer our own predictions for this tournament. Since Valve introduced a new format for this event, we will take a look at each individual stage and highlight some of the best teams that have the highest probability of winning.
Wild Card
The Wild Card stage has an interesting mix of teams who are all fairly evenly matched. In this case, only two teams can move forward into the Group Stage, while the other 4 get eliminated. Since all matches are Bo2, the competition will be fierce and a single point could decide whether the team makes it or not.
We believe AS Monaco Gambit and T1 will quickly fall behind, while the other four teams will continue their fight for survival. From a purely statistical standpoint, the two teams who are most likely to emerge victorious are Team Nigma and PSG.LGD. Team Nigma finished 3rd in the EU Upper Division of DreamLeague Season 14, just above Team Liquid, and qualified for the Majors. They faced Team Liquid and won by 2-1, which gives them the edge here. Team Liquid managed to qualify, but not before going through two rounds of Tiebreakers. With stakes being higher this time, they might buckle under the pressure, and for that reason our vote goes to Team Nigma.
The other favorite is PSG.LGD. Although they finished 4th in the previous series, just behind Vici Gaming, they now find themselves in a different setting and in an advantageous position. They defeated Vici Gaming by 2-1 in the China Upper Division, so they could potentially have a point advantage if they manage to repeat the same in this event.
Group Stage
The Group Stage is where things start to get really exciting. The top two teams from Wild Card will be joining the other six Group Stage seeds, and this time the risk of elimination is slightly diminished. Only two teams get eliminated in this stage, so it will be a battle for the Playoffs placement. The two winners go directly into the Upper Bracket, while the 3rd to 6th spots land into the Lower Bracket.
In this case, our votes go to Alliance and Team Nigma. We expect Team Nigma to pull through and qualify from the Wild Card. KuroKy and the boys have one of the most stable rosters, and have been competing together for a very long time. This gives them the confidence boost they need to overcome the challenges ahead. Alliance finished 2nd during the previous event, and only lost to Team Secret and Team Nigma, both times with a 2-1 result. We expect these two teams to qualify for the Upper Bracket, and Natus Vincere, Quincy Crew, Team Aster and PSG.LGD to place in the Lower Bracket.
The Playoffs
Team Secret is the team we select as our favorites, and we expect them to win the tournament and claim the grand prize. If you’re looking for a safe bet with reliable odds, Team Secret is the way to go. This European powerhouse has shown incredible consistency, especially in the event prior to this, where they placed 1st during DreamLeague Season 14 after winning every single match. The crew led by Puppey is looking incredibly strong and are the main contenders for the title.
The only other team that can match Secret’s recent 7-0 sweep is Virtus.pro. The Russians are the biggest threat to Secret, and we expect these two to meet in the Grand Finals. Although it’s very hard to predict the outcome of a match of such magnitude, we still expect Team Secret to emerge victorious and claim the $200,000 prize as well as 500 DPC points.
