Overwatch 2 x McDonald’s collab rewards Oz players with Epic Lightning Tracer Skin
To celebrate the release of the highly anticipated Overwatch 2, McDonald’s Australia has collaborated with Blizzard to reward players with the Epic Lightning Tracer Skin.
Fans only need to open the MyMacca’s app and purchase one of three Overwatch 2 meals —a Big Mac® Meal, McChicken® Meal or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets® Meal.
After that, fans will receive an email with a special code from McDonald’s within 48 hours. Fans can redeem the code by visiting the Battle.net account management page at https://battle.net/code.
Only a limited number of codes are available, and each customer can only get one code. Fans will only receive one code even if they order multiple meals.
To exchange the code for a different skin or item is not an option. The promotion will be available at all McDonald’s locations in Australia between October 19 and 31.
Fans’ reaction to McDonald’s Lightning Tracer Skin
The skin shortens Tracer’s hair and paints her clothes black and neon yellow with the word “lightning” written up her left leg. Unfortunately, the McDonald’s Lightning Tracer Skin appears to be receiving negative feedback from fans.
One fan posted on Twitter, saying, “Isn’t that just the Lightning skin that everyone collectively hates?”
“I was kinda jealous when I heard Australia got an Overwatch meal, but now that I see what you get when you order it, I’m not that jealous anymore,” Another tweet reads.
MondialPoke chimed in with a similar opinion, saying, “I’m straight up feeling sorry for them. Especially for new players who gonna regret they’ve spent money on Big Mac, after they find out this skin is Big Wack 💀.”
McDonald’s employee leaks crossover
On September 7, u/Me-Myself-and-PIE posted on r/Overwatch screenshots of a new Overwatch 2 meal option on their menu, sparking a lot of Reddit’s community speculation.
“I work at McDonald’s Australia and this has recently popped up on the menu, anyone know anything about this?” u/Me-Myself-and-PIE said in the post.
A similar thread appeared on the /r/Competitiveoverwatch subreddit, where u/talkinglama speculated about a new Overwatch 2 meal.
“‘Overwatch 2’ has appeared on the POS terminals at McDonald’s Australia. The Overwatch 2 meal may be on the cards.” u/talkinglama said.
On October 10, McDonald’s Australia hinted at a crossover in a tweet, posting a picture of the Overwatch 2 logo with the caption “coming soon.”
The news came after Overwatch Vice President Jon Spector had announced plans to introduce Fortnite-style crossovers to Overwatch 2.
“And as we look at the Overwatch 2 space, those are things that we’re interested in exploring. If and when we do that, one of our key values is to do it in a way that feels like a great fit for the Overwatch franchise,” Spector said.
“So we’ve been more focused on those collaborations as the stuff we might be interested in doing. And less on the ads-in-our-game type stuff.”
The Overwatch 2 collaboration isn’t the only McDonald’s video game-related promotion in the works. An image leaked by a McDonald’s employee last week showed a first look at the namesake plumber of The Super Mario Bros.
