Pogba, Neymar Jr. operator skins coming to COD Modern Warfare 2
A recent leak of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar Jr. and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba will appear in the game as operator skins. Blizzard will most likely release the skins in November to hype up the start of the 2022 World Cup and the launch of Warzone 2.
Rumors of a collaboration between Activision Blizzard and FIFA have been around since a few weeks ago. Leaked photos of Pogba and Neymar that recently surfaced further confirmed their appearance in MW2. The leak was first posted to Twitter by an account named The Ghost of Hope. On October 10, he revealed a list of football players that will appear in the game. Besides Neymar and Pogba, the list also mentions Lionel Messi, Felix Klaus, José Antonio Reyes and more.
The two football players wear body armor, gloves, elbow pads, ammo packs and assault rifles. Neymar is wearing a headset and a hat, while Pogba wears glasses. The Brazilian international is an avid gamer and has streamed playing online shooters on Twitch. This will not be his first time making an appearance in a game. Previously, he was featured as a pilot in Mech Arena.
“There’s been no official word from Activision about the possibility of a football crossover, but these images are pretty compelling,” The Gamer’s Sean Murray wrote. “I’d expect to see advertisements for these skins pop up closer to Warzone 2’s release.”
Mixed reactions over the skins
Many players were doubtful about the leak when it first appeared on the internet. Some players were worried that adding soccer players to the game would break the immersion. However, this is not the first time the franchise adds skins that are not related to the military. Previously, the franchise released Terminator skins for Warson and a Snoop Dog skin for Vanguard. The game also collaborated with Burger King to bring the Burger Town operator skin into the game.
Most players seem happy with how the soccer players look in the game. They praise the color scheme of the model, which stays consistent with the game’s tone and aesthetic. Some players even said that they looked better in MW2 that in FIFA 23.
“They managed to get a better scan of Pogba here than FIFA ever has,” one fan said.
It is also likely for the skins to be available in Warzone 2 when it’s released on November 16. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, Battle.Net, and Steam.
The game is built from “the ground up” using a brand-new engine. Activision is adding many new features and improvements to the game, including better AI for the NPCs. Warzone 2 will also offer 2v2 battles and a new map. The game will be set in Al Mazrah with 18 POIs. Activision is already working on a second map similar to Rebirth Island in Warzone 1.
