BLACKPINK, a South Korean girl band, will perform an in-game performance on PUBG mobile. The organizers announced the performance and its title, The Virtual, on Monday, marking BLACKPINK’s second collaboration with PUBG. In 2020, the group teamed with the gaming company for their first full album.

Vincent Wang from PUBG MOBILE Publishing shared that the company is “honored” to work again with the renowned group after the previous successful campaign. The current event is expected to further strengthen the connection between the game and the group’s quality music.

PUBG x BLACKPINK

“Our first ever in-game concert is set to be a groundbreaking event, expanding the ever-evolving world of PUBG MOBILE and setting the stage for a BLACKPINK comeback that will be remembered for years to come,” Wang said. “We’re incredibly excited to be ushering in a new age of the battle royale – it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!”

This concert will be held in North and South America on July 22-23 and July 29-30, 2022. Fans who do not reside in those regions can still watch the concert on July 23-24 and July 30-31.

Starting July 15, fans can secure their virtual concert tickets at the game’s mobile app. They must preload Concert Resource Pack the following day to watch the concert.

PUBG also offers an interesting in-game bonus for players. Players can get the outfits that the K-pop group will wear at the concert from July 23 to August 31 so that the characters can wear them. The game also offers daily rewards on the days leading up to these virtual concerts.

The concert is not the only thing that fans should look forward to since BLACKPINK will release a song and music video specially made for this collaboration. Those new releases will be available on PUBG mobile app and social media channels after the concert.

Collaborations between gaming companies and global music acts are common. Roblox, for example, launched two virtual performances in the first half of 2022 in collaboration with David Guetta and rapper 24kGoldn. The success of similar campaigns may bring more superstars into the gaming scene.

BLACKPINK upcoming activities

YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s management, said that they “hope to increase the opportunity for artists and fans to interact closely beyond the borders and language barriers” with this virtual concert.

“As it is a concert held in the virtual world, in addition to music and performances, various entertainments will provide fans with a special and interesting experience,” a YG Entertainment representative said. “We all can enjoy various aspects of BLACKPINK that would be different from the real world.”

This event kickstarts BLACKPINK’s activities for this year. On July 5, the management announced that the quartet nearly completed their album preparation. BLACKPINK reportedly release the album in August this year.

The management also promised that there would be “a continuous large-scale project which will extend through the second half of the year”. BLACKPINK has planned an international tour at the end of 2022, which YG Entertainment claimed as “the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group.”
