The Call of Duty League Championship Starts on August 19

The Call of Duty League has great news for the fans of the popular first-person shooter. The dates are out for the highly anticipated Call of Duty League Championship and the event is scheduled to start on August 19. Roughly one week from now at 3:00 p.m. ET/noon PT on a Wednesday afternoon, the competition begins and it only concludes at the end of the month. The deciding matches will be played on August 29-30 when the four remaining teams will compete for the championship trophy.

Qualifiers Begin in Early August

The Call of Duty League Championship only starts meet August, but the qualifiers are scheduled for much sooner. On August 1 and August 2, the Call of Duty League Challengers Last-Chance Qualifier will provide players with a clear avenue to the main event. The qualifiers will run uninterruptedly until mid-August, with the finals to be broadcasted on the 15 and 16. The event will have a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000 and the online matches will take place in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Call of Duty League announced that all the remaining matches for 2020 will be played online. This means that not even the championship event which was initially supposed to be played on LAN will see players compete under the same roof. Sweeping Changes to the Call of Duty League Championship

In addition to moving the competition online, the Call of Duty League decided to make further changes to the tournament. The structure of the competition will also change and in 2020 the championship will feature 12 Call of Duty League teams. These will compete in a double elimination tournament bracket, with the top two performing teams to be seeded into the third round. The next two squads will advance to the second round of the winners’ brackets and the next 4 will play in the first round of the same bracket.
