This week, the play-in stage took place in Seoul and it involved 12 teams who were divided into four identical groups of three teams each. They were drawn based on seeding and the tournament was played in a double round-robin format, with best of one series. Two teams advanced to the Round 2 which is actually a knockout stage and the first placed teams compete against the second placed opponents. Four teams advance to the main event, where they will join the other 12 top seeds for the matches in Busan.
Edward Gaming and G2 Esports are the main Favourites
Edward Gaming are the top favourites to advance to the main event and so far the team from China cruises through the play-in stage. They have won Group A with three victories and will play against DFM in the decisive match. The odds for a straight win are dismal, but punters can bet on them to cover the -2.5 games spread at odds of 4/10 at Arcanebet. A wager on the underdogs to cause a major upset is priced at 9/1 at the bet on them to win at least one match will result in odds of 2/1.
Place your bets at Arcanebet:
G2 Esports have won Group B also with three victories and one defeat and they’re expected to defeat Infinity esports. Pinnacle offers odds of 1/10 on them to prevail, and there is even better value of 7/20 on the favourites not to lose more than a match. Infinity played pretty good in the group stage and won half of the matches, so they are not to be dismissed, especially at odds of 11/20.

G-Rex and SuperMassive Highlight Play-in Stage Round 2
Cloud9 have won all four games in Group C and have showed no weakness whatsoever. That’s why they are such big favorite against Gambit were able to win twice in a competitive Group D. Esportsbetting.com has odds of 13/10 on the favourites to continue their stellar performance and sweep these opponents as well. We can’t hope for odds of more than 4/10 on Cloud9 to win without dropping more than a game.
At this phase of the competition, the most balanced game is obviously the one between G-Rex and SuperMassive eSports. The latter were tied for the lead with G2 Esports having won three out of four matches, so they were unlucky to finish second. A not so unlikely surprise is priced at 2/1 by both Bet-At-Home and Betway, whereas a bet on the favourites to advance results in odds of 7/20.
