World of Warcraft is still the most popular MMORPG, but in recent years its esports appeal has declined steadily. Blizzard Entertainment is adamant to restore its lost shine and pursue different avenues in 2020. On one hand, they have signed an agreement with ESL and DreamHack to include WoW on their list of prestigious tournaments. At the same time, the plans for the Arena World Championship and Mythic Dungeon International competitions have been revealed.

Arena World Championship Sets New Milestones in 2020
Blizzard had high expectations from Battle for Azeroth and they were only partially met, but the company is known for its resilience and commitment. The Arena World Championship will be broadcasted live on YouTube this year, therefore become more accessible to fans from all over the world. Not only AWC will benefit from the enhanced exposure of the streaming channel, but also the Mythic Dungeon International (MDI). World of Warcraft players will be able to watch the action live or access the VOD content at a more convenient date. The MDI gets the party started, as broadcasts begin on April 11.
The Arena World Championship has been for many years the bread and butter of competitive eSports World of Warcraft, with a history spanning over a decade. In 2020, it will wrap up the Battle for Azeroth expansion and Blizzard has announced some big changes to its format and online qualifiers. There will be 8 cups and each of them will have a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000. The winners will receive a share of the money as well as AWC points and they will be invited to participate in the AWC Battle for Azeroth Finals. This is where the big money can be made, as the finals have a massive prize pool of $500,000.
Get Ready for the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands
The Arena World Championship will be ushered in by the arrival of the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, the highly anticipated expansion. It will consist of two competitive seasons taking place online and two more tournaments played offline. The AWC is the only thing that matters for PvP enthusiasts, but WoW fans with an appetite for PvE will surely be delighted by the Mythic Dungeon International. There is no shortage of new content, with Operation Mechagon dungeon to introduce players against eight bosses. The new affix called Awakened will pit them against the mighty servant of N’Zoth which must be vanquished to prevent him from joining the final boss in the dungeon.
