Winterfest bringing free skins, weapons, challenges to Fortnite
Fortnite kicked off its annual Winterfest event yesterday to bring new skins, weapons and challenges into the game. The event will conclude on January 3 at 9 a.m. ET.
Like the previous years, this year’s Winterfest offers a total of 14 gift boxes containing 17 free in-game items. Players can obtain two wraps, two gliders, three sprays, three lobby tracks, two free skins and more. Epic Games does not elaborate on most of the freebies, but the two new skins are called Arctic Adeline and Sled Ready Guff, the revamped versions of Adeline and Guff.
Upon logging into the game, players will notice something different in Battle Royale modes. Sergeant Winter drives around the island to distribute presents containing various quality loot to players who do not shoot him. Additionally, Fortnite brings back the snowball launcher, a heavy-duty weapon.
Winterfest also allows players to win a curling iron emote. To obtain this item, they should play the game in any mode with five different friends within the Winterfest period. Players will receive the emote several days after the event has ended.
Fortnite Crew members can receive the Chill-la-la-Llama back bling by logging in to the game during the event. The Chill-la-la-Llama will sneeze whenever the players interact with an object or get eliminated.
Epic also offers various Winterfest quests that allow players to level up their Battle Pass easily since each quest grants up to 16,000 XP. These include decorating traffic lights for Winterfest, finding a slice of pizza at the Cozy Lodge and throwing Holiday Presents at different locations.
Epic announced the Winterfest Callout on Fortnite last October to encourage island content creators to develop “unique and memorable experiences” for this year’s Winterfest. Epic features the best submissions in the event. Players can explore these new islands until January 3.
Fortnite Patch 23.10
Epic earlier updated Fortnite with Patch 23.10. In addition to the Winterfest, the new patch brings Battle Pass Super Styles, which can be accessed via the battle pass tab, specifically in the bonus reward section. Several skins get Super Styles upgrades, including The Ageless, Selene and Massai.
Epic also improves the gameplay with the update. Capturing a Point Of Interest (POI) does not take as long as before, meaning that players can receive the benefits faster. The accuracy of certain weapons, including Tactical Pistol and Maven Auto Shotgun, has been improved.
Some bugs that plagued the game have been fixed as well. Fortnite PC players can now do Reality Augments rebound outside of a match, while mobile players can swipe through a Battle Pass in addition to pressing the arrow keys.
Fortnite’s MrBeast event
As promised last November, the collaboration with famous YouTuber Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has started alongside the Winterfest, with Epic announcing a $1 million grand prize for completing a challenge.
Fortnite players have three hours on Saturday to post the highest score in the MrBeast challenge to win the grand prize. Epic also offers exclusive in-game items for the top 100,000 players who join the challenge.
The MrBeast event also includes two quests that offer the chance to win the MrBeast Gaming Spray and MrBeast Survival Games Loading Screen. These quests also end on January 3.
