New League of Legends Ushers in Busy LEC Schedule for 2020
The new League of Legends European Championship turns another page, as the season has started and the LEC schedule has been revealed. Throughout 2020, the best European LoL teams will compete for a place that will make them eligible for the two important international tournaments. The Mid-Season Invitational is the culmination of the LEC schedule 2020 Spring season, but the biggest prize is a presence at the Worlds in November.
Ten teams participate in a double round-robin competition, where all the matches are played in a best of one format. The Playoffs Spice up the LEC Schedule in Early April
We are still in the early stages of the season, with plenty of games yet to be played throughout the spring LEC schedule. Even so, some names stand out from the crowd, as once again we have a few favorites for the playoffs. The LEC schedule 2020 is largely known, but the official dates are yet to be decided for the playoffs. Looking back at what happened in 2019, the first matches of the decisive stage should begin in late March and early April. Last year, several teams with losing records have advanced to the playoffs, because of the lopsided nature of the tournament. As the gap between participants closes, we expect that teams will need to win at least half of the games to make it to the playoffs.
G2 Esports Set to Dominate the LEC Schedule this Spring
The LEC schedule for the Spring Split still has a couple of questions that need to be answered, but the name of the favorite was never in doubt. G2 Esports have dominated the tournament in recent years and bookmakers price them at 1/2 to win the first half of the championship. They’ve made slight adjustments to their starting formation, by rotating players and we expect them to perform even better this season.
Fnatic are credited with the second best chance to win the split at odds of 8/1, followed by Origen and MAD Lions at 14/1. Fnatic and Origen have started the season on a positive note and are closely behind G2 Esports in the LEC standings. They have the experience and quality needed to maintain the same high level of play throughout the season and pose a serious challenge to the leader in the playoffs. MAD Lions are a new addition to the League of Legends European Championship, but they are not an inexperienced team. Key players have joined the team and they look good enough to carry the newly promoted squads to the playoffs. They lack the ability to perform under pressure, and we are far more impressed by the progress made by Rogue. This team is the true dark horse of the Spring Split and with odds of 20/1 to win it, we think it is worth keeping an eye on them throughout the LEC schedule 2020.
