BMOC 2022, BMPS 2022: Format, schedule, prize pool, more revealed
Battlegrounds Mobile India Esports officials have announced the qualification process, format, and prize pool for their new tournaments, Battlegrounds Mobile Open Challenge (BMOC) and Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS), which all will be held this year. The two tournaments are the newest additions to the Battlegrounds Mobile India esports ecosystem.
Battlegrounds Mobile Open Challenge (BMOC) 2022
The first round of Battlegrounds Mobile Open Challenge (BMOC) 2022 will be open for all players across the country, whose level in the game is 25 or above and who play in the platinum tier or higher. The minimum age requirement to enter the tournament is 16. Each team comprises four to six players.
“Unveiling BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA OPEN CHALLENGE! It’s time to keep moving forward. It’s time to keep on winning,” Battlegrounds Mobile India announced on Instagram yesterday. “Registrations are open now!”
A total of 512 teams will be selected to compete in the first round of the tournament. They will be put into 32 groups, in which the teams with the least points will be eliminated until there are only 32 teams left. The 32 teams will compete against each other until there are only 24 teams left to progress to the BMPS 2022.
“With the Open Challenge, the tournament looks at leveling the playing field for many aspirational players while providing specialized opportunities to pro-level players,” Krafton, the developer behind the game, said.
Battlegrounds Mobile India has yet to announce the prize pool of the tournament. It will, however, be held starting from April 4 to April 10.
Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS) 2022
The 24 teams from the BMOC 2022 will then be invited to compete in the Battlegrounds Mobile Pro Series (BMPS) 2022. It is the highest tier of BGMI competition in India. The 24 teams will be divided into three groups to compete in a round-robin format.
The top 16 teams from the groups will then be entitled to compete in the grand finals, after which the winner will qualify for a spot in the annual PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022. It is the highest stage of the esports known as PUBG Mobile, Game For Peace, and BGMI.
The tournament will take place starting from May 19 through June 12. The grand finals will be held for four days, comprising 24 matches in total. The prize pool for the tournament has been confirmed to be INR 200,000 (USD 2,627).
Previously in 2020, the game was banned in India, along with over 100 other mobile apps. The ban was announced by the government of the country on September 2 last year.
“Government Blocks 118 Mobile Apps Which are Prejudicial to Sovereignty and Integrity of India, Defence of India, Security of State and Public Order,” the country’s Ministry of Electronics & IT announced on Twitter.
“In the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India and security of the State,” the Indian government wrote in a press release. “And using the sovereign powers, the Government of India has decided to block the usage of certain Apps, used in both mobile and non mobile Internet-enabled devices. These apps are listed in the attached appendix.”
It added that “This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace”.
