Boba Fett, one of the most memorable characters in Star Wars history, is finally coming to Fortnite on December 24, 2021, at 4 p.m. PST (or 7 p.m. EST).

The collaboration is in celebration of the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett on the streaming platform Disney Plus (Disney+) on December 29.

Boba Fett is a bounty hunter, and its first live-action counterpart was introduced in 1980’s Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. The character recently made a comeback in Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian, released in 2019.

On November 13, Fortnite revealed the character’s design that will soon join the game on its Twitter. The skin is likely based on Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming Na Wen’s Fennec Shand. There is no information yet whether any other cast of the show will join the launch.

Compared to the previous Star Wars skins release, these skins might only be available for purchase through the Fortnite Item Shop. No word yet regarding whether these skins will be added as unlockable rewards.

To date, the price for the skins has not been confirmed yet by any official sources. Judging from previous releases, the price for each individual skin might be around 1500 V-Bucks, and they might come in a bundle — such as the Rise of Skywalkers Pack — for approximately 3,500 V-Bucks.

Ongoing Fortnite x Disney Crossovers

Epic Games’ Fortnite is known for its collaboration with major production houses and industries such as Disney, which includes Marvel and Star Wars, DC, and even the anime Naruto.

Boba Fett’s arrival on “the island” is a part of Epic Games and Disney’s continuous collaboration, especially since the launch of Fortnite Chapter 3 earlier this month. Previously, other Star Wars characters such as Rey, Kylo Ren, and Finn had joined the game as well.

Multiple Disney characters, including those of Marvel, had arrived in the game before. Superheroes and villains from Marvel available for players include Iron-Man, Captain Marvel, Thor, Groot, She-Hulk, Thanos, Loki, and many more.

This year’s ongoing Winterfest 2021 event allows players to pick up Spider-Man’s and MJ’s skins from Marvel’s long-awaited latest release, Spider-Man: No Way Home. With the Spider-Man skin, fans and players can unmask the character and play as Tom Holland. Meanwhile, Zendaya’s MJ skin lets fans and players fight for survival with a more casual look.

Mixed public feedback

On December 23, Fortnite Content Creator HYPEX posted a picture of an in-game skin reveal of the character with the following caption: “BOBA FETT SKIN REVEAL! (Releases on Friday) – Just a simple man making his way through the galaxy like his father before him – available in the Item Shop now!”

The response to the reveal has been lukewarm, however. Many replied to the tweet saying the design looks identical to the previously released Mandalorian’s skin, calling it a “Mandalorian variant”. Others defended the design and said it looked nothing like the Mandalorian apart from the helmet and said they were excited to purchase the new skin.
