CDL Champs 2022 Day 3: LA Thieves vs Atlanta FaZe Grand Finals

The Atlanta FaZe and the Los Angeles Thieves will have their rematch in the Grand Finals of the Call of Duty League Championship 2022 after their first meeting in the Upper Bracket Finals of the tournament, where the LA Thieves won against Atlanta FaZe 3-1.

FaZe is now looking to prove that the earlier win against the team was just a fluke as the Thieves set their eyes on the prize for the final time. In a stroke of coincidence, the organization behind the two teams are also matched against each other in the Upper Bracket Semi-Finals of the Valorant Champions Tour North America Last Chance Qualifiers.

In terms of predictions, both teams are evenly matched. The LA Thieves have not lost in the tournament, while the Atlanta FaZe’s only loss came from the LA Thieves — and despite the setback against the Thieves, FaZe didn’t seem to be phased at all as it quickly bounced back and won against the Seattle Surge in a decisive 3-1 series.

Their overall record against each other in 2022 is dead-even, with both teams having three wins each, meaning the upcoming grand finals of the CDL Championship 2022 will serve as the dramatic tiebreaker.

Both teams have been performing phenomenally in this tournament, with the Atlanta FaZe winning 10 out of 18 games, placing their win rate at 55 percent. Meanwhile, the LA Thieves have only played 12 games but have won 9, putting them at an impressive 75 percent win rate.

The pressure is on for both teams heading into this match as there is a lot on the line in both reputation and winnings. The grand finals matches will be streamed on the official Call of Duty League YouTube channel on August 8.

The LA Thieves will be bringing Kenny “Kenny” William, Zack “Drazah” Jordan, Sam “Octane” Larew, and Dylan “Envoy” Hannon, as well as substitute Nathaniel “Pentagrxm” Thomas. Meanwhile, the Atlanta FaZe’s lineup consists of Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris, Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson, Chris “Simp” Lehr and McArthur “Cellium” Jovel, as well as Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson as the team’s substitute player.

About the CDL Championship 2022

The Call of Duty League Championship is the final, major tournament of the Vanguard Season. The tournament takes place in Los Angeles at the Galen Center. It is a double-elimination tournament, with most matches being a best-of-five series and a best-of-nine grand final. Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and Control are the available game modes, with Berlin, Bucage, Gavutu, Tuscan and Desert Siege being the allowed maps.

As the tournament is hosted by Activision itself, it features one of the largest prize pools in Call of Duty Vanguard’s history — a $2,550,000 prize pool where the first-place winner earns $1,200,000. Each reward tier below earns roughly half of the previous until the 7-8th place, who would win $30,000.

The eight participating teams this year are the LA Thieves, Atlanta FaZe, OpTic Texas, New York Subliners, Toronto Ultra, London Royal Ravens, Boston Breach and the Seattle Surge. The Seattle Surge ended up in third place, while the OpTic Texas placed fourth.
