PUBG Mobile to release The Boys exclusive in-game items
One of the world’s most popular mobile video games, PUBG Mobile, is collaborating with Prime Video, Sony Pictures Television, and Sony Pictures Consumer Products to offer fans exclusive content from The Boys, an Emmy-nominated satirical superhero series.
“The Boys is a groundbreaking TV series that has forever changed the entertainment industry with its irreverent take on superheroes,” said PUBG Mobile senior director of marketing Anthony Crouts. “We always strive to deliver fresh new content to our players and this collaboration gives us the amazing opportunity to integrate real-time elements of The Boys’ new season directly into PUBG Mobile.”
Launched in 2017, PUBG Mobile is a multiplayer battle royale game based on PUBG: Battleground, where a group of up to 100 players is dropped onto an island and fight until only one survives.
In a Hunger Games-liked scenario, players must find weapons, supplies, and vehicles to fight other players as the play zone shrinks around them. The game has previously collaborated with popular shows like The Walking Dead, so crossover events with popular shows are nothing new to them.
Based on a DC comic series of the same name, The Boys is a superhero satire produced by Supernatural Scriptwriter and TV Producer Eric Kripke. Billy Butcher, played by Karl Urban, leads an eponymous superhero group fighting “The Seven”, a superhero group controlled by Vought International. Despite their heroic persona, The Seven commits horrendous crimes in secret.
In the show, Kripke recently reunited with Jensen Ackles, who starred in his show Supernatural. Ackles appeared on the show as Soldier Boy, a Supe who served in World War II and awoke in the present modern-day.
A teaser on YouTube revealed that PUBG: Mobile’s collaboration with Amazon’s The Boys will commence on June 3, the same day as the premiere of the show’s third season. With this collaboration, players will have access to exclusive items such as the iconic suits of Homelander, Starlight, and Soldier Boy.
Get epic rewards by participating in weekly challenges
A unique Supes parachute will be part of the crossover alongside weapon skins and backpacks. The Supe Spree event is set to take place on June 5. Players team up with Billy Butcher from the series to form an investigation team and find evidence of wrongdoings by superhumans.
A gruesome series of unexplained killings suddenly threatens New York City in the game. Wall Street brokers and their clients start to appear disfigured across the city. The cops are clueless about what is going on, so the authorities are investigating. To complete each task in the game, players must work together with characters from The Boys and their in-game friends to uncover the truth.
The players will need to gather evidence, unlock storylines, and reveal the superhero responsible for these horrible attacks to obtain Billy Butcher’s Duds. Players can also earn additional perks and rewards in a limited time through a series of weekly challenges.
Crossovers are nothing new in video games. PUBG: Mobile has previously collaborated with other franchises such as the popular anime series Black Lagoon and Spider-Man: No Way Home in February and Warframe in March, where players could earn various Warframe-themed items.
